Theo The Magician of Sutton and Epsom attended this fundraiser for his good friend, Past Rotaractor and Rotarian Nick Bell who organised this Dinner Dance on Friday 30th January 2026 to Celebrate 40 Years of being a member of Winchester Rotary. Invitations went out to all members past and present and other Rotarians that have helped shape his Rotary life, as well as friends who have followed his journey to have a good time as his treat and way of celebrating.

The party was totally funded by Nick and he asked all to consider supporting the Music Project at The Great Lakes Peace Centre in Kasese, Uganda he set up as part of the Education Project. It serves youngsters who are not immediately attracted to formal Education by giving them access to Musical instruments and lessons and introduces them to working as a Team, thereby showing them what they can do, so that gradually they start attending school.

The Project then also helps them with their fees. It costs around £2,000 per annum and they are presently looking after 4 children in this way. They would like to expand it further both in terms of number of children and instruments that are available for them so are looking at costs for 2026 of £2,500.

Theo The Magician said it was really good to see Nick again and lots of familiar faces, as he has entertained The Rotary Club of Winchester many times over the last 30 years at various President’s Nights and Social Events, including their Christmas Party 2025 last year.

Also, in attendance was the local Mayor, Past Rotary District Governors and three Past Rotaract District Chairman (Theo The Magician being one of them).

The venue was The Weeke Community Centre in Weeke. There was a lovely three course meal by Tristan Perrin and music by Five Shades of Grey and of course the Raffle.

As a Brucie Bonus with Theo’s “Magic Hat On” he perform a little Magic Interlude when the Band took a break.

Assisting him as seen in the pics in front of the Rotary Banner was Thomas Bwambale, Winchester Rotary’s Scholar from Uganda who is studying at Winchester University and Past Rotaractor now Rotarian Luke Addison.

Magic Theo’s finale was a New Magical Effect he has been working on all this year and had the main man himself Mr Nick Bell assist him to an amazing applause.

The night was a great success reaching a total so far around £3,500, which means more children will be helped.

If a further £500 is raise this will help a few more children, giving them a better life.

GLPC Music Project

The Music Project is part of the Education Project at Great Lakes Peace Centre in Kasese, Uganda. It started about 4 years ago as a way of encouraging children who were not at school and who were essentially disinterested in Education to come together to learn to play a musical instrument under the direction of a teacher and through that move together towards more traditional education. It has worked well and we have 4 pupils under the scheme who have now moved into traditional schooling.
