Myself and daughter Elena took a visit to St. Raphael’s Hospice to present the money raised from our Fun Crown Bowls Evening at Cheam Fields Bowls in Memory of Del Stowe.

This Event was put together with just two forty-eight hours’ notice at Del’s Wake, which was arranged at Sutton’s In-door Bowls Club on Wednesday 18th September 2019.

For the first time in the Cheam Field’s Club History on Friday 20th September 2019 a type of Crown Bowls was played. You could say it was all a “Load of Bowls”. Bowls were everywhere, being hit, kicked away, Jacks and Bowls were being knocked by other Bowls from different matches. Funky music being played with some good moves being made on the green by many players, especially that Mover Groover Elizabeth. A type of Dodge Ball was being played as you walked on the green. You had to be aware of Bowls coming from all angles.

Players that couldn’t attend donated to the Evening’s cause of St. Raphael’s Hospice, where Del and family were supported amazingly well.

Our Winner was New Bowler Stuart, another of our now many Tennis/Bowls members. Two nice surprizes on the night. The Enterprize League donated the £135 raised from the season and Magic Theo’s Foundation donated a further £200.  The amount is a little more from on the night, as I received some more donations after the night and Elena rounded it up to £600 from her part time job at Westcroft Leisure Centre.

Members ended up having a last minute Fish & Chip Super. A truly Fun Social Evening was had by both players and spectators. A Night to be very proud to be a member of Cheam Fields Bowls Club.

A big thank you to my lovely daughter Elena Theodoris for being my administrator and in charge of the Music on the night.

We had a fun time in The St Raphael’s Cafe “The Orangery” presenting it to the House Manager Sue and the volunteers. They were all very appreciative.

NB. If you ever need a place for a cuppa or bite, I thoroughly recommend The Orangery. The added bonus is that the money goes to the Hospice.

Coincidentally a week before I found out about Del I had signed up as a Volunteer for Massaging in the Hospice and Fundraising
